How I started...

Hubby wanted us to get mountain bikes.
It took a good few weeks and lots of soul searching to get from a)“NO WAY!! I could never do that!” to b)“Well…maybe…” to c)“Yeah! I think I can give it a go” to d) “Yes, let’s go to the bike shop” All the daft, mostly negative, thoughts of the day went through my head. What will the neighbours think? What if I fall off? Pictures of Dumbo pre-flight and flying. No bike will cope with my short-legged bulk! My face will go all red and sweaty, no - purple and sweaty! People will laugh at me. What will I wear? No way they’ll make bike gear in my size! You name it - I thought it. Funnily enough very rarely did I think of physical obstacles, mostly psychological ones! I’m not sure how I managed to get from a-d above. READ ON if you want to find out - it all started Oct 16th 2007...

A woman of leisure now that's me...

Roll I've quit my work and I'm happy as can be!
The job itself was much the same as it's always been - it demanded lots of patience, dealing with the public - but I could deal with that, in fact I enjoyed that. My colleagues were more like comrades, we're all in it together, fighting the good fight, trying to give our long-suffering customers the best possible service. BUT the management wouldn't know valuable staff members if they trod on them, and they frequently did!
So I've had enough hassle and I'm out of it now. A huge weight has lifted from my shoulders. Now I need to try and shift a huge weight from elsewhere on my person!!
I've been a bit preoccupied with leaving work, turning 50 and trying to work out economising strategies (even after nearly 30 years in the job the pension at 50 isn't that much!) that all else has been sidelined. The eliptical machine is dustier than it should be, and the bikes are similarly gathering stoor in the garage. I'm hoping that getting back to blogging, traineo-ing and bike forum-ing will spark me into action! The fridge is full of healthy food just waiting for me to turn it into healthy meals for me and hubby. It's soup-and-hearty-stew weather just now, so that's the plan...

Doctor on a bike said...

Found your site through Traineo and congrats on leaving work behind. As a doctor, I don't tell patients to quit their jobs to work on their health, but I do encourage them to hire a maid, or a lawn service or whatever to free up the time they need to exercise. Your health is certainly worth the cost of those decisions. Best of luck with your efforts!

Hi Doc

Thanks for the comment. Good advice - though I suppose a lot of people would resist, thinking they should be "able" to do it all! I know I've made the right decision for me and my family and that's a great feeling.
